Who is Nicky Hayden?
Nicky Hayden is a professional motorcycle racer, best known for being the 2006 MotoGP Champion. Often referred to as the ‘Kentucky Kid’ this upcoming MTV Documentary Movie takes you into the life, career and journey of this charismatic and hard working athlete. We flew around the world to document the Kentucky Kid’s quest for a second world title.
The Challenges of a Traveling Shoot
Given Nicky Hayden’s on-the-go lifestyle, it required a skeleton crew to follow this Super Athlete to all corners of the globe from Long Beach, CA to Istanbul, Turkey. We had to create the ultimate travel package to make sure that all the equipment was mobile and light without sacrificing the quality of the production value. That being said, it had to be durable on top of mobile because the equipment had to be able to take on any environment in any country. We specialize in travel from years of experience in the field so we used travel friendly light kits, break down stands, refillable sandbags and flag kits that can fit into carry on suitcases.
Equipment Highlights
Because Nicky Hayden’s bikes can reach speeds up to 200 miles an hour on straightaways, we had to become long lens experts to keep up with the Kid! We became very well acquainted with the Fujinon 42x Lens for those high speed shots, and we provided the Industry Work Horse Panasonic HDX 900 with custom wireless video units to keep the director connected to the action at all times. The modified wireless video system allowed us to stay connected to our cameras at longer distances without interference, which came in handy on the large racetracks. As we mentioned earlier, we cannot forget the Road Rags break down flag kits, which were great for interviews on the go. Traveling shoot are never easy but the right equipment can make all the difference.
