MAN VS BEAR ON DISCOVERY
The Discovery Channel has truly outdone itself with the latest show that premieres on December 4, 2020. Each week, three Grizzly bears will challenge human competitors for speed, strength and stamina on the grizzly’s home turf. Each episode has five challenges, based off of bears in their natural habitat, battle it out for who tops the food chain. Atop Bear Mountain sits Honey Bump, Bart and Tank. Honey Bump is the only female on Bear Mountain and is the fastest of the bunch, Tank is the smartest of the bears, and Bart is the strongest and biggest grizzly. From “tug of war” to rolling giant logs, the human competitors will be pushed to their absolute physical limits. In addition, we get commentary from Brandon Tierney, an Emmy Award-winning sports commentator, and Casey Anderson, a wildlife expert to join in on the fun.
CHALLENGES
Our biggest challenge on this one is trying NOT to get bit by a bear. Sounds pretty straightforward, right? As one may expect, getting interesting, close up footage of a wild animal is not easy. Bears like their space, and we needed to find a way to make our footage as intrusive-less as possible so that they are able to authentically maneuver around their habitat. Luckily, we were able to come up with some custom solutions to set up cameras with long range wireless video transmission capabilities. We set up Teradek Array panels, coupled with a fiber system to quadruple the video range across the wilderness.
