THE ONE WITH THE FRIENDS CAST
Just when fans thought the Friends content was over….The Late Late Show released a new tidbit from the Reunion!
We created an open-air “CarPool” for this episode of the Late Late Show. Our golf cart was decked out with custom cameras and lighting rigs for 8 passengers. Our ENG cameras also captured the nostalgic moments as the Friends cast rolled down memory lane on the Warner Bros backlot. They drove by the famous fountain, singing a familiar song to kick off the episode in style. James visited the iconic sets, and met back up at Central Perk with the cast to play “The Best Friends Test.” We learn who was most likely to break character, the best dancer and who is the best Friend in the cast.
THE ONE WITH THE GOLF CART RIG CHALLENGE
Our initial challenge with the golf cart rig was making the structure solid enough for stable shots while hiding 12 cameras and lighting.
In order to get the angles and stability that we needed, we got our C Mount Modifications (C-Mod) on. We used pipe rail and grip to reinforce the structure of the cart. Moreover, we fabricated square stock rails into the rows that didn’t have mounting points. We took great care to make sure the rails blended in with the existing structure. This allowed for sturdier mounting points for cameras and hides for lighting cables. Then, we custom cut matching vinyl covers to conceal any exposed mounting rail or grip. Additionally, we created false headrests for the cart seats to hide the cameras from each other.
Afterward, we rigged up a wireless mobile video village cart for the Director to monitor all rigged cameras as well as multiple ENG cameras also working on set. The wireless monitors clipped off of the cart with ease for the segments shot on stage. This highly portable and adaptive rig made it easy for the Production to keep eyes on all cameras as the cast moved quickly around the lot and back onto the stage.
