RED DIGITAL CINEMA’s WEAPON HELIUM 8K S35 Monochrome BRAIN (PL, Standard OLPF) is built around the HELIUM 8K Super 35 Monochrome CMOS sensor, offering rich B&W 8K resolution in the lightweight, modular DSMC2 carbon fiber camera body. Features include a dynamic range of 16.5 stops, and the ability to record in REDCODE RAW (R3D) and ProRes or DNxHR/HD simultaneously. The included carbon fiber DSMC2 Sidekick control panel, and the magnesium RED DSMC S35 PL Mount 2.0 share the WEAPON’s strong yet lightweight design. Capture B&W (monochrome) images at rates up to 60 fps in full-format 8K 8192 x 4320, or overcrank up to 75 fps in the 2.4:1 aspect ratio; additional frame rate choices include 120 fps in 4K, and up to 240 fps in 2K full format. With up to 4x greater resolution than 4K capture, and over 17x more than HD, the WEAPON HELIUM 8K S35 provides the detail that enables cropping, re-centering, and additional tweaking in your post process while maintaining vivid, crisp imagery. Data rates up to 300 MB/s can be reached when using 480 or 960GB MINI-MAGs, or up to 225 MB/s with 120 or 240GB MINI-MAGs (available separately).
Designed for high-end cinema and video production, the RED WEAPON DSMC2 cinema camera features the DRAGON 6K Super-35 CMOS sensor and REDCODE RAW imaging pipeline. Shooting in 6K gives the production an edge in the post process, even in 4K deliverables, as shots can be re-framed in your NLE while keeping the material at 4K resolutions, or greater. VFX artists can also benefit from the extra resolution information. REDCODE RAW is the format of choice for the WEAPON. RED’s versatile raw codec uses wavelet compression to reduce data rates while maintaining a visually lossless image rendering. This efficient codec can be edited on many available NLE software programs without transcoding, though if you prefer a proxy workflow, ProRes or DNx files can be recorded simultaneously to the MINI-MAG media.
The PL-mount Cinema EOS C300 Mark II Camcorder Body features a Super 35mm CMOS. This provides faster and more accurate autofocusing to assist users when operating with small crews. Canon’s Log 3 Gamma supports 14 stops of dynamic range.

The locking mount reduces lens play, and allows you to use most 35mm lenses including PL, EF, Leica, and Nikon via optional adapters. This stronger E-mount is ideal for using heavier-long cine-zooms without the need for additional lens support.
Just behind the lens mount sits an electronic variable ND system that provides a clear filter and 3 user definable presets. The variable ND can be adjusted to provide between 2 and 7 stops of ND. The camera can capture footage to optional on-board XQD media cards in either DCI 4K (4096 x 2160) or UHD 4K (3840 x 2160) at up to 59.94 fps or HD at up to 180 fps.
The camera records in your choice of XAVC-I, XAVC-L, or MPEG-2. However, MPEG-2 recording does not support the high data rates the camera is capable of generating when shooting in UHD, and is limited to recording HD video only. The camera incorporates Dual XQD media card slots that support simultaneous or relay recording. An ergonomically designed handgrip provides control of many of the camera’s functions and features an adjustable length support arm.
